Once a booking is confirmed, let the hotel or guest house know at once if you are unable to keep your reservation. If the hotel or guest house cannot re-let your room you may be liable to pay about two-thirds of the room price (a deposit will count towards this payment). In Britain a legally binding contract is made when you accept an offer of accommodation, either in writing or by telephone, and illness is not accepted as a release from this contract. You are advised to take out insurace against possible cancellation.
